Productive evening. In theory, all that is left to hook up is the pedals, killswitch, and radiator stuff.

10 months later... IT'S ALIIIIIVE! The old Jeep runs, although I still need to hook up the brake pedal/driveshaft/shifter and change all the fluids.
There is also a little issue of "no exhaust pipe whatsoever" that the neighbors would probably appreciate if I resolved.

Drove the truck to work tonight; the motor ran great and didn't get especially hot. Unfortunately I couldn't get out of 1st (or 2nd?) gear, but I think my shifter linkage got bent when I was installing the motor.

Drove ~50 miles yesterday and ~130 today with no drivetrain issues. Obligatory photos.

The Heep is completely driveable; almost everything after this point is not critical to operation and will be completed as I find the time and money. I'm having a new tailgate built at a metal shop down the road that will be a traditional full tailgate (as opposed to the fifth-wheel setup it had before). Sheet steel on the outside, diamond plate on the inside.
Todo:
Tailgate (WIP)
2x 12v power sockets (WIP)
Paint body and interior panels
Re-upholster seats to match paint
Temp/RPM gauges
Radio/speakers
New wheels and tires (16.5 wheels are a pain when it comes to buying tires)
New parking brake assembly (transmission locks into park, but the manual parking brake is worthless)
New radiator (Slow leak when at operating temps)
Electric radiator fans for MOAR AIR

Hit 77777.7 miles a month ago. Incidentally, I also blew out my rear crankshaft and main seals and lost 3 gallons of oil between Chapin and Elgin. Getting new seals is a never ending fight with backorders and international shipping, but I should have the Heep back on the road soon enough. Amazingly (although the oil pan is virtually empty) the motor did not run hot/start knocking/smoking/screaming/whatever.
New tailgate
Prepping the body and covering up surface rust.

Between November and December I managed to kill my flywheel ring gear, transmission, and radiator. Just now getting time to work on them; flywheel has new teeth, I have a new (well, spare) transmission, and a brand new 3-core CJ radiator. Hopefully the old Heep will be on the road again this weekend or next.

I see you have the mini-Steevo mechanic working hard. Sure has grown up fast!

Because I can't leave well enough alone: low miles motor and a rebuilt transmission.
