I could not believe my eyes, but this was seen for 2 minutes above Norway. Gives me goosebumps They say it could have been a missle, but that was definitly not a missle.

Looks like Russia's having a nice party and didn't invite Norway, so therefore Norway got jealous and tried to say it was a missle to get them in trouble. Kids these days.

Is it just me, or is it not painfully obvious that the light was merely being projected from the ground at about a thirty degree angle?

This was without doubt, to me at least, a SLBM (Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile) test gone wrong. The spiraling cone left behind the lights is the smoke trail left after the multiple exhaust cones from a Russian Bulava (SS-NX-30) SLBM.

The Bulava is a 10 MIRV, three stage solid propellant, 37 metric ton 12 meter long 8,000 km range guided Submarine launched intercontinental  ballistic missile. It appears that the on board navigation system malfunctioned causing the out-of-control spiraling, and was caused to self-destruct when it was unable to be corrected. Out-of-control spiraling of the missile, probably due to the on board gyroscope malfunctioning, would cause the spiraling pattern seen in the video's, and a self-destruction would explain the outward blast once the spirals stopped. This would not be the first time that Bulava SLBM has failed during testing. Through December 2009 the Bulava has had 12 flights with 7 failures among other issues. This new-generation missile system, veered off course one minute after liftoff on September 7, 2006 and fell into the White Sea. A special governmental commission concluded that the cause of the failure was a malfunctioning control system. On 25 October 2006, another Bulava missile deviated from a preset trajectory and self-destructed. On 24 December 2006, the Bulava missile once again demonstrated its erratic behavior, dropping into arctic waters shortly after launch. As you can see, this would not be the first time this design has met with failure.

How does that explain the faint "cone" of light that clearly appears to be a projection from the ground? If the cone of light was emanating from the object in the sky, it would be angled in the opposite direction.

I wonder if aliens are having the same discussion as we are right now..

For me Dom, the biggest evidence that it is not a light emitted from the ground is that the cone coming from the ground is not straight but bent slightly. Also remember that when this happened it was the morning and you can see the sun is rising in the background. Here are some comparison photos:
