Russian AR15!?

Post by SteevoLS » Wed Oct 19, 2011 10:32 pm

Funny how just as we hear whispers of a russian "mystery rifle", an Izhmash subsidiary starts manufacturing an AR15 knockoff.

Izhmash subsidiary Molot to manufacturer Russian AR-15 rifle!
In a Russian AK manufacturer Molot, who are a subsidiary of AK-74/AK-1xx maker Izhmash and who make the VEPR AK-style rifles, announced at the Moscow ARMS & Hunting '11 expo that they would be producing an AR-15 style rifle called the HPE-140 (впо-140). The rifle is in a M4 configuration and includes a quad rail, ergonomic pistol grip and muzzle brake. It weighs ~7 lbs. I never thought I would see the day that a subsidiary of Izhmash would produce an AR-15. It is a pity Eugene Stoner did not live to the worldwide popularity of his invention.

I am a bit of a jerk.
There have been a lot of games since the last fatality. Roses are red, violets are blue, so is your car at 102

The joke of it is it will probably be a pretty nicely manufactured AR.

If they build it like they built AKs, then I guess we can expect to see plenty of them built like rocks.

I'd say cheap too, but I don't know the price of a new AR variant vs a new AK variant, and would end up looking stupid.

Considering it's not any kind of classified weapon they probably just bought one, took it apart, put it back together again after changing a few things (comfy pistol grip maybe), and slapped a new name on it. Also a lot of guns classified as "American" were actually designed somewhere else. Like the M249 SAW for example, I believe that was developed in Switzerland, but don't quote me on that one.

We're not talking about chinese factories here. I'm sure this rifle was 100% manufactured in Russia from standard AR15 specs. On the flip side, that grip and rail look like cheapo UTG products.

FN Minimi is Belgian. The M249 SAW is made in Columbia, SC.

any news on sale for civ.s? been looking for a AR as a little gift to self, a russian 1 would be a bigger conversation starter that a olympic or bushmaster. (not that an ar on your living room walls lacks any conversation starting)

Honestly, I doubt this will hit American soil anytime soon. If you want a quality, inexpensive AR pick up something like a CMMG.

Fixed..no point in buying one, anyway. There are numerous high quality AR manufacturers in the US. Olympic Arms not being one of them. ???
