Painting Tips?
Painting Tips?
I've seen some really good looking camo paintjobs on people's kits here in the community. Would anyone be willing to put up some tutorials?
For instance what kind of paint (i.e. brand, color), technique (stencil, freehand) and maybe some pics to along with that.

Re: Painting Tips?
I guess there are numerous techniques, but this is my short input:
When you paint the gun, assuming that you're using spray paint, make sure the gun is at least half a foot or a foot away from your spray paint. This will prevent over painted spots. If you over paint, the paint will start dripping down on your gun and leave visible marks.
I don't even know what I just said even makes any sense...
As far as brand goes, I stick with 2 or 3 Dollars Walmart spray paints, but if you are willing to spend some more money, you can also get high quality paints like Duracon, which is scratch proof.
Other than these tips, I don't have much else. I don't camoflage my guns.

Vanquish (Jeremy Bonam) and Jeremy Arvay (Rael's son) do some of the best gun paintjobs I've ever seen, so they would be who I'd ask for a tutorial.

Re: Painting Tips?
I recommend Krylon Fusion spray paint, it literally fuses with plastic.

I break the guns down completely, hang the parts, clean everything with mineral spirits and don't touch it with your hands.
I like krylon or rustoleum. I've used painters tape and I've used cardboard templates. I've also laid twigs and leaves down and painted over them but it's all about finding what works for you and the style you're looking for.

Other times I may post something directed specifically at another forum member just to be a smartass. Don't take it personally, it's all in good fun.

Any tips for painting on rail systems?

Re: Painting Tips?
Scratch Proof spray paints have the best results for rails, since you're going to be mounting accessories. There is not much to say other than that. Make sure you throughly cover little parts, and as I said, be careful not to over paint.
It would be a good idea to hang them while you're painting.

Re: Painting Tips?
First I would recommend Krylon Fusion paint. Make sure the end of your barrel, and other parts thats function could be harmed by the paint are covered. The I start with a base coat of tan. Let it get rather tacky, but not completely dry. Then throw some vegetation from the yard on there. Small leaves, fern pieces, whatever you think would look good. Next hit it with some olive green. Pretty much spraying the entire gun. Then a little hint of black around some of the edges of your vegetation, and shadowing more open areas. Now this will leave the leaf areas tan, but looks great for a bdu green loadout. Below is a few guns that will show you the finished product.
