you wouldn't need a gas block. on my old m4 i didn't have a gas block, im pretty sure i didn't. i didn't see one atleast.

Red, the gas block is what holds the handguards on.

Some cheaper companys don't have them. My old echo didn't.

The gas block has nothing to do with the rear sights. The gas block is at the front of the hand guards... not the back of the receiver.

I know. If the front sight wasn't there what would I use to stop the handguards from coming off? Are you saying keep the front sight and get rid of the carry handle?

As I said above, I suggested that you get folding rear sights in place of the carry handle.

Yes DW, a rear BUIS (Back-Up Iron Sight) works just find with a A-Post Front sight. Most BUIS are designed specifically for it. While, you will still see the front sight through your optic, that's ok, I usually just put the dot right on top of it, and with most scopes, you won't even see it.
