Big Bertha Version 2.0
Big Bertha Version 2.0
I've had plenty of questions about Big Bertha V2 since I redesigned my original, and I promised that eventually I would do some actual field tests under controlled circumstances. Well, after many months, I have.
I went to a friends property the other day and fired from a fixed position at measured angles of fire using a folding chair as my rest. All rounds were fired at 100PSI (+/-5) under the propolsion of a tire pump. Though I can run her off of any compressed air source that is schrader compatible, and usually use 12g CO2 cartridges for faster reload times, since I was testing and in no hurry I went with the $0 per round manual pump instead. The AoF was measured with a simple protractor and homemade plumb line, the PSI was measured by the gauge on the pump, and the distance of impact and landing were measured with a roll up tape measure. There was a ~3-5 MPH breeze that afternoon for which I had to make minor compensation. The lateral direction (aiming left or right) was simply eyeballed.
At a 50o AoF the range was exactly 400ft. This angle seems to be about the best range at that PSI. I fired 6 rnds in 3 minutes at this angle and pressure at a fixed target (2sqft) 400ft away to test the groupings. All 6 rnds landed within 25ft of the target, had it been a small building all but two of the rnds would have hit.
*pics coming...

Re: Big Bertha Version 2.0
I would like to see how you built this. I might have to make one to fit in my Jeep.
Re: Big Bertha Version 2.0
Hit me up at a game and I will give you an overview, or I can build you one for $60.
I almost forgot, her longest clocked hangtime is a little over 9 seconds .

I have to go home now, but I will dig some up from previous games when I get a minute this week.

I will be at Op.24. A few of these in fixed positions at the blue hole would make for some interesting game mechanics.

Just a quick check pneumatics are the only allowed cannons of any sorts, right?

Re: Big Bertha Version 2.0
Was this when we tested it at RedFox. I remember it having a ridiculous amount of hangtime.Dominum wrote: I almost forgot, her longest clocked hangtime is a little over 9 seconds .
Re: Big Bertha Version 2.0
Either there or at Saluda. Either way, it is quite an effective launcher, albeit not the prettiest one on the block.
There's no kill switch on awesome!
Re: Big Bertha Version 2.0
Yeah, hangtime is 9 seconds, we usually do that at every Redfox game just for gits and shiggles. Someday I'd like to make an historically accurate version that actually resembles a real weapon, but until then I'm going for effectiveness, durability, and low cost. No need for anything fancy seeing as there's only good reason to field it about twice a year.
