Google would be a decent source of any and all upgrade options.

Thumper, what exactly do you want to make "better"?  How old is this gun? E1's generally come with a great FPS out of the box.

for good starting points look into a tight bore barrel, new hop up bucking and nub, replace the 2pc hop up with a good 1 piece metal unit and you should have a pretty solid set up.

From there replacing the crappy wiring with some high quality stuff and using deans connectors.  Replacing the wiring will require someone to open the box so at that point a thorough cleaning, proper lubing and a good shim job and you'll be set for a while.  At that point run it until it breaks.
Say what you want, think what you want, it won't change the fact that AJAX will do what we want, when we want, including roll the ____ over you.

Other times I may post something directed specifically at another forum member just to be a smartass. Don't take it personally, it's all in good fun.

What do you want to improve?

-Accuracy

-Rate of fire/trigger response

-Range

-Durability/longevity

If you want an accurate standard assault rifle type setup (340-400FPS) do what Severed said. If you want it to have a very high ROF or more range (DMR) then you may want to do a bit more. It's really up to your budget and style of play.
