KWA M4 Series Review

Post by D05GTO » Sat Mar 06, 2010 6:49 am

As most of you know my family runs the gambit of KWA rifles.  SR-10, SR-5, M4-RIS, Regular 1.75 M4.  I wanted to get a full operation done with the guns before doing a review.

So far, only hiccup was the SR-10 that needed to be send back for Warranty repair.  It would not feed BB's consistently.  Seems the hopup bucking/barrel assembly was sitting to far back into the feed chamber.  Got it back from KWA and now it feeds flawlessly.  No idea what they did but probably put in a new hopup/barrel Assembly.  We went though about 30k BB's between them with no problems since the SR-10 came back.

Chrono with .20

SR-10 - 385-390
SR-5 -330-335  CQB gun but with surprising accuracy and range.
M4-RIS new ver 390
1.75 M4- 370-375

Range- I setup a 50,100,150,200 foot range to practice with.
SR-10 50-haha, 100-10/10 hits on 12"X12" square, 150-9/10 hits on 2'X4'sheet (blame the wind) ;D, 200-5/10 4'X4' :o
SR-5  50-haha, 100- 9/10, 150-6/10, 200 2/10 too much for the fps but you can lob some shots into it
M4-RIS 50-haha, 100- 10/10, 150- 7/10, 200 - 4/10 wind really affects it that far out.

The Goods-
  • Lipo ready and they mean it.  We all run RA-Tech 11.1 1600mah batteries.
  • Great range and accuracy out of all of them.  Stock is a 6.05 barrel and 2G bucking
  • Rock solid- No wobbles at all
  • Smooth firing and consistant FPS
  • Wiring is great and fuse has easy to access in the stock
  • Many options for batteries in the crane stocks
The Bads-
  • They are spendy- but you do get what you pay for.
  • Mag wells are a little tight- usually need to sand down PMags to get them to drop free.
  • SR-10 has a 425mm barrel and the hopup can be crushed if using an aftermarket flash hinder. Good for accuracy though
  • Not enough time to play with them
The Wall-O-Guns

Bottom Right to Left-
SR-10- Mine :D
KWA M4 1.75- Backup/loaner with CASV railing and Magpul furniture.
M4 RIS- Son's

Top Bottom right-
SR-5  Wife loves it and will not give it up until you pry it from her cold dead hands. LOL

Good review. I'm pretty impressed with the new improvements on the new KWAs. I like the new gearbox, bucking, barrels, and bodies. They're really trying to step it up.

I have two KWAs and I run them on 9.6v NiMh batteries, and they both have a great ROF.

On to the battery fitment in the crane stocks.  Pretty much any crane stock battery will fit. Also, look at the shoulder pad, it is cut out to fit mini stick type batteries.  RA-Tech lipo 11.1 1600mah, 7.4 mini stick and the 3 panel ones work great.  The 2000mah lipo one does not fit.

The 9.6 2000mah 3,3,2 cell pack.

9.6 partially in. plenty of room on the sides.

Here's a great overview of the new 2GX gearbox that comes in all KWA M4/M16 gearboxes.

Wow, I didn't know you could put a LiPo in the back of the stock.  That's good to know.

When i recieved my KM4 2 weeks ago, i couldnt wait to battle field test it. Now before i go on, let me tell you that my 2g bucking was already ripped on the lip. But to me it didnt seem any hinderance or affecting the feed from the mag to the barrel. Anyway, after chronoing my gun with .23's @ 385FPS consistently...the game was on with the Walterboro Bulldogs. I always had doubts and really skeptical with any KWA's becuase of it's out of box problems...well that had change when I went through about 5,000 rds the first half of the game without any misfeeding, jamming, double feeding, and nailed 6 of them before being tagged out myself.

And to this day, my gun is still firing!!! All in all, KWA's is reliable, and out of the box performance is true to its name!!!

Oh yeah, KWA is sending my new bucking too!  :D

What do you mean, "out of the box problems?"

Sure you may have a small hiccup here and there.. but the only AEG that's had any large scale problems recently, seems to be a batch of SR10s from early this year. If you're talking Pre-2GX gearboxes then there have been a few problems that have been fixed for a long time that roll over into the 2GX generation of M4s. The G36s should hopefully get the full gearbox makeover soon(9mm bearings throughout and more reinforcement), but are now techinially Lipo ready unlike the pre '09 models.

that is what i meant...the early SR10 models. like i said, i was skeptical at first, but after my fellow PG teammate purchased one and seen what it could do and still run like a champ after what he put his gun through, i became an instant believer! either way, another KWA will soon be added to my armory!

SpyderTC just got his new KWA M4 from airsoftgi in this past Friday. Not only does it look awesome and feel really sturdy it performs great right out of the box. The only thing he has added is a g&p aim-point. The rate of fire on the new KWA"s is ridiculous and the accuracy with .28s is insane. We were putting bb's right where we wanted them when we were shooting (apparently). The only thing is it's battery compartment is in the hand guards, and it is really small. My 9.6 1600mah and his lipo both would not fit. Which was kind of disappointing because you had to hold the battery in your hand while you shot. But that can be easily fixed by buying a new battery that will fit. Over all I think the new KWA M4s are awesome guns and are sold at a really good price. Now all I have to do is talk my dad into buying me one for graduation.  :P

Gambler you need to post your review of both the KWA's you have purchased this year.

As requested Garrett.

I have bought 2 of the new KWA V2's int he last couple of months.  One was the SR10 and the second the SR5.  Both guns had exactly the same problem out of the box.  The hop up would not engage and all of my bb's were dropping off.  After talking to KWA and even sending the SR10 back  KWA to have them look at it, they said they didn't see a problem with it.  Jeremy(Vanquish) replaced the bucking with a KWA V1 bucking and no problems since.  On the SR5 it had the exact same problem.  No matter how the hop up was adjusted the bb's would not curve up or even shoot straight out to the distance it should shoot to.  I have dropped it back on with Gman Chris at AC and I am sure he will get it shooting right, but I am not happy with the fact that I've bought 2 brand new guns and haven't been able to use either one out of the box.

BTW, the SR10 shoots great since the bucking has been replaced.

After our team ordered ten 2nd gen KWA M4s and two 2nd gen KWA M16s, we haven't had any problems with the buckings. My only concern is that the 2G bucking is quite thin and may rip if you install a new barrel. I have ripped two of the buckings before.

Got my KWA SR5 back from Airsoft Carolina and used it at the CQB game this weekend in WV.  The gun shoots about 350 now, still need to work the spring in a bit, but the gun is shooting amazing.  It has almost the same range as my SR10, but obviously not the accuracy.  Thanks to GMAN for getting the bucking issue worked out.
