I stripped the foregrip yesterday, but forgot to take a picture of it until after I had applied my first stain basecoat. When stripped, the difference between the current shade and the stripped shade was about as much as it now when compared to the original color (the stock).

It'll be about 25%-50% darker than that when its done with a satin finish.

I know you already know this, but it'll look 50 times better with a darker finish. What do you plan on doing with the trades?

Take it to a machine shop and have them strip and blue the metal then take it to an engraver, like a jeweler or something and have them etch in trades.

I may or may not blue the metal since the lower receiver is plastic on all airsoft Thompsons. I'm quite capable of making an aluminum lower, but I don't have the money to sink in to that. As for the trades, there are several jewelry and trophy shops in the area that have very reasonable rates. I'll just get a good picture of a real Thompson's trades and get them etched to about 1/16"-1/24" depth.
I decided to stop at 3 coats of stain and went ahead and sealed it. All done! (aside from drying) It's noticeably darker than the rest of the furniture and is a much richer color than the sort of bland orangish shade that the wood originally had. It's kind of hard to see the difference in this pic since it's so washed out, but I don't have time to do any Photoshopping till later. More pics tonight!

I'm sure the metal would look fine. Might want to rough out some edges and weather it a bit

Thanks, guys! As far as the metal goes, for the time being I will just rough it up a bit more with steel wool. I will be doing the same stripping and staining to the stock and pistol grip, but not until after this weekend.
