Yes they would be. After having an electrical charge passed across and through them for so many times they will get a build up from the transfer of electrons and what not. (I'm not a scientist.) This will lead to a reduction in current flow. Did you ever have slot cars as a kid? It is kind of the same priniciple as those, in where you have to keep the contacts clean for them to work at optimum performance.

That might be the problem because I have had this gun for almost 3 years now. Infact, two weeks ago was the first time I opened it up since I got it. Today was the first time I opened the gearbox.

We are in the new shell now, right? switch the contacts on the motor to make sure the motor isn't wired backwards and just trying to turn against the anti reversal latch.

It is difficult to notice, but if you take it apart and reassemble it the gearbox will cycle one time and stop again. There are two fixes to this: Find the broken off piece of metal and glue it back (cons being the glue may get in the way of other things and it may break again, so it has to be done right); OR you can buy a new GB shell (cons being it is not as cheap and is very time consuming to replace everything). It may seem like a long shot, but I'll bet you $5 it is this rare flaw.
This means you can close it and it will attempt to cycle, and then no more power will be able to reach the motor. Like I said, my bet is the problem with the shell I originally stated, and using the old shell means it will not work.

Post a clear pic of the empty left side of the original shell zoomed in on the area around the sector and trigger (but with all parts removed) and I will tell you for sure if my original diagnosis was correct, then we can move on from there.

Ok. Just one thing before I do: is there any specific way to remove the trigger contacts and the parts that connect to the selector assembly? In my opinion, that was the hardest part.

Ok, I'll get to work on it. Is there any way to upload pics to the website through a phone?

Just emptied out tue gearbox. I took a look at the copper parts and there was a build up of some black residue. About to post up the pictures of the left side.

So I cleaned the copper parts, made sure everything was in place and put it back together for the night so I don't lose anything if I have to change gearbox shells tomorrow. I was feeling lucky so I fired it once on semi. It worked as if it was normal but then the no power problem occurred again. I asume i have to replace the gearbox?

Have you lubed it at all?

Did the gearbox sound normal when you fired it on semi?

This quote sounds familiar to what you are experiencing.  ;)

Normally I would say that there are several things this could be, because there are.
