Troops back by Obama

Post by adjunog » Wed Jun 22, 2011 6:08 pm

1/3 of our troops are coming back home and the rest before sept. 12, 2012 from Afgan. Troops are training Afgan but some are coming back to supposedly protect US during the election. Do you think US will benefit in economy? I think only a certain amount should be there just to train so we don't waste government money send troops back and forth. Do you think troops should come home? I think they need to be there if they should stay there and then just send all troops back home.

Do you even remember why we went there in the first place? We went there to make it less of a horrible place and to find Bin Laden now that he's dead I agree we should pull out but there is no reason to hold contempt for the people that live there.

Did I call them something or describe a geographical location? I'll give you a hint it wasn't the people...carry on.

You may not described as specific location or people but I do believe calling someones home a "craphole" qualifies as contempt. As well letting it go back to its former state where there was no real govt. to speak of just a dictatorship and people getting killed because their dictator wasn't happy with them, I would say that's contempt. It seems to me basically that you want everything our troops have fought hard for over the past decade to mean nothing.

The liberal in me says "about dam time!", but the rationalist in me says this is more akin to an "Operation Get Reelected"

that was part of it, the other part was removing al qaeda and the taliban form the area. but Osama is a good enough reason to pull our troops.

think you're confusing Iraq with Afghanistan....the Taliban,a loose confederation of tribal groups linked by religion more than political beliefs, was what was running Afghanistan when we invaded...and yeah they killed folks that didn't agree with them but they did so with the majority support of the population....which they still have since we are now ,and have been ,dealing with them as a political entity...they were living that way because that's how they've lived for THOUSANDS of years......tribe vs. tribe, group vs. group...and they have never shown any willingness to change that set up....i mean the only thing that unites these people at all is any sort of outside invader....which they defeat with time tested insurgency ....NO ONE has been able to take that place and hold it in ANY real sense since before Alexander the Great.it's a military and political tar baby that is better left alone to it own devices....when we pull out things will just go back to what it's always been in that place...tribe vs. tribe fighting each other over opium, lumber, shoes,whatever.....no sense in wasting American time ,money and lives in some misguided attempt to bring "freedom" to a group of people that don't want or need democratic concepts....

I don't understand why the heck we spend all this money overseas, when we are $14 trillion in debt and have enough problems of our own that that money could go to...

Because we are the most powerful nation in the World and we have an overwhelming need to meddle. I agree we should pull the troops out but we can't and won't do it anytime soon. We can't just leave two countries in ruin. That isn't the US way no matter how bad the government dislikes us. I know we can't make them like us but we can't leave a country that is economically in shambles and has no way of repairing itself destroyed like that. I don't think the US will be out of the middle east until 2015 or later no matter what the politicians say. If we do get out sooner then we will eventually go right back in because there will be another politically driven motive to do so.
