Link me. (if my google search doesn't show me first) Now I'm pissed that my super long scar isn't extended, even though they make scars that are.

Re: Will this work?
I definitely agree with you on the piston bodies being polycarb Star.I think the addition of weight is so slight that it has a very marginal effect as far as the piston head is concerned. Faced with the trade off between weight and durability on the piston head, in all but the highest ROF setups I will err on the side of durability. However, this is a judgement call and is certainly a matter of such minute proportions and varying numbers that it is really a matter of opinion, so we can agree to disagree on since neither of us can really prove it, and it's not a major issue anyway.

I can't really blame you for not knowing that though, as I honestly did not know that some L85s were extended. I think I worked on one once, but didn't have a need to open it and didn't take note of the long cylinder. The ones I have had to open were standard, so I guess they were ICS.

Yeah, tomato tomato.... that doesn't work so well typed out. I knew it would end up being for us to accept our differences, I just wanted to make my opinion known. Thanks for listening.Dominum wrote:I definitely agree with you on the piston bodies being polycarb Star.I think the addition of weight is so slight that it has a very marginal effect as far as the piston head is concerned. @Skywalker. Your SSR has a normal length gearbox. It was definitely a normal V2. First clue should be what piston you are using in it.
Re: Will this work?
No problem, I certainly agree that your points are valid, it's just a small judgement call that is really just opinion anyway, and we happen to differ on it. No need for us to duel at ten paces. Though, I feel compelled to point out that you are a big stinkin' meany head.
Oh, and since we're on the subject and you two actually care: The CA SVD has an extended GB, it's basically a really long and robust V6. I was happy to find it quite well designed, easy to get to and work on, and all in all a smart setup. It seems to me that a lot of people these days overlook CA for having such solid stock gearboxes (for the most part).

Re: Will this work?
I DON'T GET IT. Its a 280mm barrel... did CA really just decide "well, its the same mags as the SR25, same air nozzle (I'm assuming), so, screw it, just make it the same whole dang gearbox"
?
oh yeah my SSR is a normal one for sure.
and oh yeah, if you handed me 2 GB, a CA and well... anything else other than a TM, I could tell you which the CA was. They're nice.
and stop posting things and let me post this lol
In other news, Skywalker WTB CA Scar-H

Re: Will this work?
LOLz.
One thing I have always liked about CA were their shells. Something about them is sexy. Oh, and the fact that most of the parts are quality and robust is great too of course.
Oh, and Cripto (sorry for the [kinda] threadjack) you are right about Q #1. Though the cylinder head depends on which G&G you buy. Luke still gets the cookie though

Do you know how the RS SVD gearbox compares Dom?

Re: Will this work?
lol, getting a little off topic... but what size barrel do you have in your SSR skywalker?
Personally, I have almost no experience with CA. IMO, they've fallen to the wayside and have been replaced with newer companies. I haven't heard or seen a new gun from them in some time. The X-Series guns are the newest that I know of, and I really don't know much about them. To be honest, there are other guns that I would pick for whatever kind of build I would be doing. Until they offer something special, I'll probably never consider buying a CA.

Re: Will this work?
Not a clue, RS is so rare around here that I have never gotten to work on a RS SVD, in fact I am not even sure that I have ever opened a RS GB at all.
CA is still a top tier manufacturer, they're worth remembering. A stock CA GB can last for years on an M120, and they really are not bad choices for upgrade platforms as their shells are strong and their wiring is great. Their gear sets can handle a good bit too. I favor VFC for stock guns overall, but CA isn't all that far behind. KWA is great too, but their oddities and high out of the box failure rate (those who have always had theirs run great like to ignore the relatively high number of people with brand new ones that have major issues out of the box) kind of offset their high quality parts and innovations. G&Gs are of course excellent guns on the same tier as well.

Re: Will this work?
meh, I've got two RS Type 97s, and I'm not impressed. While I've heard fantastic things about them, I think their Type 97s are their weakest guns. They are still good solid guns, just lots of special parts in the gearbox, and oddly put together.
There are some crazy fanboys over at ASF that seem to absolutely adore them. I want to handle one just to see if they are up to all the hype they get.

590. Kinda in the gray area of enough volume/not enough volume. .... thats why I'm ticked that there is a Scar-H with an extended GB, but its not the sniper variant one..... yes I know CA and VFC probably aren't the best buddy buds in the world, but still.
Yeah my apologies to the original discussion of this thread... this is what happens when you get Star_Folder Dom and I talking about internals haha

Somehow we have managed to become the three musketeers of tech, or maybe the three stooges?
Well, it's late and I think Cripto is all set with info now, so I am going to sleep.

Re: Will this work?
lol, yeah, guilty. but the question was answered, so I don't feel bad about polluting this thread.
590 is right on the border of a standard cylinder.
If you had perfect beyond perfect compression, a.k.a in a perfect world, a 590mm barrel would work. But we don't live in a perfect world, and you cylinder probably doesn't have enough air to push the bb all the way down the barrel.
heh, I like that. Three Tech Musketeers. Now dom just needs a DMR and we can run around shooting everyone ever. MUAHAHAHAHA....
anyway, same as dom, I'm tired. Not a night owl like Skywalker is.
