Nothing more than Line styled fighting had not gone out of 'style' A Phalanx has, a rank-by-rank firing line has, but a basic use of a line is still there.

Also WW1.. do you mean the Revolutionary War?

Edit:
Sorry, re-read your post. The trench warfare also has gone somewhat out of style, even though it was not a style to begin with. Trenches are doug to hold a fortification. Want to know why WW1 was such a long battle? Because the trenches couldnt be beat.

Actually, you are both right. Anthony is referencing campaign or front-wide battle lines. You (all) are referencing tactical lines of battle. Two completely different things. Anthony is correct in the sense that lines of battle over a broad area, i.e. across an entire front or theatre of a conflict are no longer viable in warfare, conventional or otherwise. This is due to the considerably higher lethality and accuracy of anti-formation weapons (bombs, missiles, ICBMs, etc.) The only exception to this rule is if and when a modern conventional force is facing an extremely antiquated conventional force without air superiority. However, in the case that the modern force commits enough forces to establish lines, the antiquated conventional force must then adopt guerilla tactics in order to avoid the destruction of entire formations. Hence, two lines of battle are never drawn across an entire theatre anymore. However, that does not negate the need for tactical lines of battle in a localized area. As pointed out, though there may not be a solid line of trenches across a theatre, there will still be solid lines of trenches on a tactical level. For example, you need a line around your base of operations and across major roadways. The problem is that Anthony is likening airsoft to strategic engagements, which involve thousands and thousands of men, whereas airsoft is entirely composed of smaller engagments between smaller elements then would be used on a campaign level. Hence, lines of battle apply very much to airsoft.

Seriously guys, brush up on your Bevin Alexander, sheesh!

Hmm.... your statement is totally illogical...
Since an opinion is in FACT a personal view and not necessarily based on fact or knowledge... it is neither CORRECT or WRONG, therefore, it can not be corrected by others.... others (us) can only agree with it or disagree with it...

Now using your definition (gasp!)....
FACT: There is still a battle line drawn in Korea. The armies sitting on either side have VERY modern weapons at their disposal and amongst all the fortifications, towers, and such.... there are... dare I write it.... (gasp!) TRENCHES!....
and as for blasting away, seems like North Korea emptied a few artillery rounds into South Korea a couple of months ago...., North Korea (supposedly - not sure if it was proved) sank a South Korean ship recently..., both armies shoot people crossing the DMZ, etc... probably not the blasting you have in mind but people are dying due to the blasting...

And..
@AR999, I would not have any problem fighting beside you. Just come on out and play!

@Dominum
I agree with your composition. One could guess that is what AR999 was intending.
In my opinion (there's that opinion thing again :D ), the DMZ in Korea is an anomaly but it does appear to fit AR999's definition....
As a side note, I can't believe you used "seriously" in your submission because you've warned us (edited) "as a general rule, to don't take you seriously, ever, seriously". ;)

In other news....

I believe I will be at the AirFarm for Saturday (only).... :'(

I will now crawl back into the shadows...

I'm planning on being there saturday, you'll have to roll with me and my Dad some. Dom layed all my questions/comments/concerns about battle lines to rest, so I'm now clear on what everyone else means with the term.

Looks like I might be able to attend this one and assist the beleaguered Bravo forces. Yes, that would mean Bravo would have armor, freshly back from Fulda Gap 2011, and honestly it looks like they might need it. :-\

However I'm having trouble getting one of my usual teammates to come and be my gunner, hence the "maybe". Could always recruit for a volunteer, but obviously prefer to have someone willing to commit, and the duty is modestly demanding, as I'm a cruel taskmaster. ;D The tank would be off the field before dark (for safety), so you'd be free to do whatever during the night portion of the event.

Also, I'm a little unsure if it would be inappropriate for the event numbers, of which I have no idea. If we have 100 folks like OP24-II, it would be fine, but for a 20 vs 20 vs 20 event it would likely be overkill. Garrett, Dom, or Diesel, if you would give me a bit of guidance here that would be much appreciated. I'm okay with "no", you won't hurt my feelings and better to know before I make a 600 mile trip.

If I can attend, I can provide both Alpha and Charlie forces a (reusable) satchel charge each to give them some integral AT. If this game has some kind of 'economy', they would obviously thus be valuable and tradeable. If you have a nerf launcher (such as the kind Dom makes and sells, might be a good time to get with him about a purchase), that's even better, plan to bring it.
I will post again once I am sure I will be attending, and after I get the high sign and a gunner lined up.

Roger, I will take that as an affirmative on appropriateness then. Thanks Felix.
I hope Redemption's tanks retain all their wheels this time. :P

Now on to securing a gunner.....

To be honest, it's been a dream of mine to get my hands on an actual armored vehicle of some sort and make IronFox the AOSC's first "resident tank crew". O0
