LHS just got, through a massive grant, IPad 2s for its +3,000 student body. These GamePads were intended for learning purposes, and to keep LHS at the top of technology.
Personally, id rather a laptop that can run CAD or BIM.

Great idea! Instead of higher standards for teachers and students and more teachers per student, subsidize the purchase of toys for all of the Kids! That makes so much sense, I'm so glad to see my exorbitant property taxes being spent so well!

Heres the breakdown. 500$ for one ipad. 500$ for security and the preuploaded apps (Garageband was a necessity for EVERY ipad you know!) goes to about 1,000 each.
OR
Kindle for 80 each, spend 300-400$ putting every textbook online, thus elminating the textbooks and giving us a lighter load, along with only 500$ each

See, government run schools are the way to go! Privatization always screws things up with their market driven efficiency and accountability to the customer. Bureaucracy always works best, who needs competition? Without it, people can be trusted to do the competent thing with other people's 'free' money.

Ridiculous. They wonder why our state's education ratings are dropping. It is because of the idiotic adults who run the school system and don't understand how to properly use technology as a learning aid. I see the theft rates going up, pricey insurance for the iPads, and other absurd charges for BS items to go along with these things.

All i know is, its retarded. the Ipads are crap. Servers are down every day because we dont turn them off.
Now i have had some classes where they use it as a learning aid. For example, Economy, we researched and checked the stock market. Public speaking, i researched my persuasive topic and took notes.
But most people game during class. Teachers hate it

I tell you what, giants don't give a wet slap how many dragons you've blasted out of the sky. They'll still stomp a crater in your face.

Your economy teacher could have just as easily looked it up on his desktop and projected it on the wall, and people can research on a desktop at home. The excuse about this helping the "poor" is BS. If the majority of the "poor" (meaning people who use my tax dollars to pay for their government funded housing) can afford brand new cars, they can afford a basic desktop computer as well. If not, Libraries are free; they can drive there in their nice cars.

its nice to see other people think that stupid LHS ipad plan is a waste of tax payer money too. I was disgusted when I heard about it, and I have an iPad I use for nearly everything.

There have been a lot of games since the last fatality. Roses are red, violets are blue, so is your car at 102
