Have you considered the Caracal series of 9mm pistols? The bore axis is extremely low, meaning the kick is mainly back instead of up/to the side. I haven't shot one yet, but they are very well reviewed (and have a Glock style trigger and striker).

No... They are cheaper but I'd kinda rather go with a Glock, because they're tried and true and more known and such...

Also, this isnt a pic, but

Glock 17, Beretta 92fs, or CZ 75 for IDPA competition? Or another 9mm I haven't thought of? Several people have recommended Glocks to me, and I like them... Going to shoot all three on Friday. Glock is winning partly because it has a rail.
It ran $449 at Palmetto State Armory. I know nothing about 9mm handguns or something to be used for shooting competitions. Best thing to do is jump on other forums and read about what professional competitors have chosen as their pistol. Wish I could help out more.

Well I'm not looking for a competition gun, those are more expensive... I just want something reliable, cheapish, and accurate that I can use to start out in competition.

Off the top of my head for budget ($500ish or lower) pistols:

Glock 17 - preferably Gen 3
FN 9... FNP = normal, FNS = striker instead of external hammer, FNX = gucci version of FNP (hammer, not striker)
CZ 75b, SP-01, etc
Ruger SR9
Springfield XD 9 (Looks goofy, but runs great)
M&P 9 (comfy, but the trigger isn't that great)
Sig 226 if you can find one used.
Zastava makes a great Sig clone in 9mm that runs around $500... EZ9, I think. Sure, it's not made in America, Sweden, or Germany, but Zastava has been making guns for nearly 160 years.

Just google "gen 4 Glock problems" and you'll see.

It looks like there was a recoil spring problem that was recalled and fixed in the newly produced ones. Am I missing anything?

I absolutely hate Glock 17s, but competition shooters seem to love them. However, keep in mind that many Glock competition shooters have their Glock 17s modified.

What do you hate about them? What would you recommend for a similarly priced 9mm?

I hate the look, and the way it shoots.
