Just a new player looking for some gear advice

Post by Kalistur » Fri Jul 20, 2012 10:35 pm

So first things first, I'm looking to get some good gloves, but I don't know what material to get. I've looked at hard plastic and carbon fiber plate knuckled gloves, Nomex, Kevlar, etc., and I can't decide on a material. I want something balanced between protection and dexterity. Open to all suggestions.

Second, I'm looking for a vest. I'm particularly interested in MOLLE, due to the customization abilities and the fact that I also have my eyes on a MOLLE-compatible Camelbak. Open to all suggestions as well.

Keep in mind I'm on a slight budget with both items, but price ranges can vary as long as they are reasonable

For the vest, I got an OE tech MPS chest rig (from airsoftgi). It can hold 12 magazines with the included pouches, and has plenty of molle on it for more goodies. Plus it can be converted from it's "plate carrier mode" to a real chest rig by taking off the back plate if you wish. $60 with mag pouches is a good find.

I use a pair of Firm Grip gloves I found for $9 at Home Depot. They work great, have enough padding to soften blows, yet still let you stay nimble with your fingers. Of course if you want cooler looking tactical gloves, those are in the $30 range.

I like this vest quite a bit, and am looking at it in black. i like that it can be used as both plate carrier and a regular vest, and the fact that it comes with mag pouches is a bonus. Very good suggestion.

Why do you want it in black? FYI, black stands out badly in the woods.

He may balance it out with green molle furniture, which is what I have done. Would you think a tan vest may blend in better than a black? He was looking at various models and colors.

At Airsoft engagement distances camo color doesn't have a huge impact. It does help, but ultimately its a personal choice. I would avoid ACU just because some of the bigger game hosts for the US are starting to restrict it for military respect. At least thats what was said for the reason.

I don't know about that at all.. My multi cam blends in well enough so that I can get the drop on a lot of people.
And when did the ACU rule start?

Black's ok, I use a black vest, but I have mainly green pouches, so it helps.

OLMSS started doing it. I don't entirely understand why. They just said no out of respect for the military.

Give me a little bit I will hunt it down. (Actually that was pretty easy)

I also found it on another bigger series, but It has slipped my mind. I was surprised regardless.

About the effectiveness of camo it does help, but it varies. It's most effective at a further distance though or low light conditions. Would probably work even better if we were not looking for each other in such small areas either. From what I have read this newer Atacs design starts to get is full effective results at much closer ranges. I would like to see it in person.

Dont know who this is just found it off google if you are unfamiliar with the camo

Some players, such as my self, have black gear because we can have one setup for eather side. It is better for myself to have tan shirt with tan'ish pants, tan color cap with black load out for bravo. Then is playing alpha, I can just have green combat shirt, woodland BDU pants and a green hat. The vest is just a good setup with out spending extra money on two identical load outs for both colors.
Just get a setup that you are good with. If you have the funds, then get both color setups.
But as you will see, sometimes the game director will stick you on which ever team to even everyone out.

Plate carriers will retain a lot of body warmth! You can get over heated. My setup weights 52lbs fully loaded. So that is another thing you must think of. If you are a runner, go light. If you are more command or supply carrier, go plate. Just take out all the darn padding.

The only problem with that is there were people on the renegades with full uniforms. No one wore ACU, but I don't know many experienced players that wear it, unless they want a challenge, because it sucks in the woods.

BTW, it was pretty cook to have Kenny Thomas as the CO of the renegades. He was right up front.

Banning ACU like that is kind of silly. What will they do next, ban Multicam out of respect for the troops that are actually deployed?

Black gear does stick out, and camo does work. Personally I like coyote brown gear since it looks good with woodland camo and blends in quite well with all the pine needles and sand that you see in SC fields. Black just sticks out everywhere.

You are correct that black DOES stick out. But that works for the stupid players like my self. I cannot hide. I yell and talk to much. Hahah

But if you want to have a better "camo" just watch others and find the color setup that you like. It is your choice and there is no wrong answer to that.

As for the active uniform for airsofters, get over it. Go with what you want. To ban any uniform will alienate a good bit of players. Having a good time is what we are out for. Some have fun looking good. Some have fun just sitting around chatting with others during the off game times. And others, like myself, enjoy shooting, planning, and being shot at.
