Improving ROF with a high-torque set up?

Post by Foxx » Mon Jul 23, 2012 1:03 am

Several months ago, my G&P M16a3's gearbox finally gave out. Rather than doing a cheap "Frankenstein job" with my drawer full of spare parts, I decided to buy a brand new gearbox for my beloved rifle as well as a new motor. I bought an M120 high-torque gearbox as well as a high-torque motor. (Mainly in the interest of getting a good trigger response.) I then paired it with a 9.6v 2000 mah battery.

To my surprise, the rate of fire was considerably low. Especially compared to what its previous gearbox/motor could do on an 8.4v. I'll admit that I don't think I've put enough rounds through it to fully break it in, as I've only used it in a few games since replacing the gearbox. Is there anything I can do to improve the ROF, or am I just going to have to give in and buy a lipo?

Get some standard torque gears, such as 18:1 gears. Torque gears are bad for most set ups, even DMRs. Trigger response is gained through torque motors and speed gears.

What Kory said. Torque gears combined with torque motors will accelerate quickly but with a low top speed.
