KWA 1 piece hop up mod.

Post by Muff-in » Thu Jan 24, 2013 4:36 pm

I hate using the stock 2 piece KWA hop up and I was wondering if anyone has tried modding the KWA lower receiver to fit a 1 piece hop up. I know that I need to change the nozzle and that I can't break open the lower and upper the same way. Is there any other down sides to doing this?
Also if someone has a guide on how to do it that would be great. I remember seeing a picture on where to cut on the lower but I can't seem to find it anymore.

Actually, you're kind of stuck. To do this to you gun, you would need to replace the metal body with one that slides, and then you'd need to replace the gearbox shell because the KWA 2GX is too thick for other metal bodies. And then, of course, your internals might not fit into the new gearbox shell, all that coming down to it'd be cheaper to buy a new gun.

I've done it, it's a HORRIBLE idea! So first you cut the lower and add a 1 piece hop up, now you have to change the air nozzle! So now you're trying to get the gun to close, but it would snap the air nozzle because of the way the receiver brakes down. So the next step is to remove the tabs on the upper, so the receiver will slide in, similar to an AGM or other brand. But now the back pin is useless, and the receiver won't stay shut... What I did was wrap electrical tape over it. The only other option is to buy a new receiver, but the GB shell is unique and won't quite fit...

So don't do it! Please!

Well dang. Ok. Guess I'll just have to be happy with this crappy plastic 2 piece hop up and crappy POS nozzle. If I hadn't already put a crap ton of money into this damn gun I would start with another one.

Are there any 2 piece hop ups that are better than the kwa one so that I can use a nozzle that has an oring? I have a few stock ones laying around but they are worse than KWA's.

You can replace the nozzle without replacing the hop up chamber. The nozzle fits into the hop up chamber with that ridge, not the other way around. So if the nozzle doesn't have that ridge, it will still work.

Will it not lose air seal due to that ridge, or does the bucking prevent that?

I don't know why KWA put that ridge in there except to complicate things. It serves no practical function and has nothing to do with the air seal.

Why do you want to change it? I've had two KWAs over the last 3 years shooting the same FPS as they did out of the box with great accuracy. I never even thought of changing the nozzle and hop-up unit.

Not everyone is as lucky as you have been.

You can simply dremel off the ridge on the top of the airnozzle. Don't screw it up or you'll have poor compression though.
