AR latch issues

Ok, I've been having some stupid problems with my 54 RPS build... I've destroyed 2 AR latches, and broke 5+ AR latch springs. Has anyone else had this problem and what can I do to stop this from happening?

You can start with some more info about your build. Someone can't magically come in and tell you *this* is your issue when all you've said is it's a 54rps build.

That's like going to the car mechanic, telling him, "My car makes a funny noise when I go over 70, tell me how to fix it."

No problem. Just figured it could be a common problem that didn't need any diagnostics.

Also, as for the AR latches, I've broke a Systema and XYT one. I'm currently using a Lonex one, but three springs have been broken on this one. The spring always break at the bend where it holds the end of the AR latch. From what I can tell, the bevel makes no contact with the spring, so I'm not sure what would cause it to break like this.

Perhaps the spring is rubbing on something else, causing it to break? Same thing with the ARL, maybe it's rubbing on something. The spring breaking could be related to ARL damage. How have the ARL's broke?

I've built a gun once with those 10:1 gears, a very powerful motor, and a 14.8v battery. Parts would fail left and right, and little frustrating things, like AR latches and springs; as well as the major things I would predict to fail eventually, like pistons.

I may say that the 50+rps range is when you cross the threshold into parts just failing because of the large amount of stress and wear on them.

I agree its odd having 3 springs break... is it after prolonged use on full auto? Or can you not tell when its happening?

Now that I say that, its not like the AR latch cares very much about the gear ratio

The two AR latches broke at the very end where it latches into the bevel. It always breaks while firing in full auto, same goes for the springs.

I'm going to check the shimming on the bevel once more to make sure the AR latch or spring isn't rubbing. If I can't figure it out, I'll just remove the AR latch and use motor braking so I don't have to deal with this.

Removing the ARL is never, ever a solution, it only causes more problems.

Have you modified your ARL at all?

Nope. I'm taking my gearbox apart now and am going to try and replace the gears with some ZCI ones and see if the same thing happens.

Even with Chimera bragging about not needing it?

It's a marketing ploy, you always need an ARL. There is overspin 99% of the time. Unless you fancy using 8.4v nimh batteries, and even then, guns overspin. AB doesn't stop all over spin.

You need to modify your ARL to mesh properly with Riot gears. Try sanding it down so it's a little flatter on the end. Your spring won't have to try as hard, and your ARLs should stop breaking.

Now that I look at it, the ARL sits rather low on the bevel latches. I'm going to try what you said and also shim it up to mesh properly with the bevel.

Will report back with the progress. Hopefully this works, cause frankly I'm getting sick of buying AR latch springs haha.

Do you have reversal issues as well? Issues with the ARL not always engaging the bevel?

Only when the spring breaks haha. But when everythings intact, I have had no issues.

Also now that I think about it, I've been only using SHS springs. I'll try using a different kind and see if that has any affect.
