Odd lock up situation

Post by Skywalker » Thu Jul 04, 2013 6:04 pm

Ok guys, real quick...

I'm having some odd lock up issues on my TM M14. After multiple rapid shots on semi, it starts to wear down as if the battery is losing juice, until the gun ceases to cycle at all. I know the battery is good, because I'll use it on other guns no problem (11.1v 3200mah 30c). I don't believe it to be an electrical issue, because I just reworked everything, and it all looked fine to begin with. The Mosfet isn't giving me any weird problems either, it seems just fine.

I'm trying to think of some type of mechanical problem that would be creating this issue, like bad motor height or poor shimming...

One factor that may SOMEHOW be contributing is that the gearbox shell has a crack... but its up by the cylinder head. I can't imagine that would be creating a mechanical issue with the gearbox cycling.

I'm going to continue to test with batteries and different amounts of pulling the trigger... but just looking for some other brainstorming

Electrical resistance will cause that. It can be some form of resistance somewhere in the system. Problematically enough, the motor is part of the electrical system, so any mechanical issues will reflect in resistance in the electrical system. If you're sure all the wires are good, check shimming and/or motor height.

And, he proceeded to tell me that there is a potential problem with the Systema Motor I'm using...

This, ladies and gentlemen, is a burnt out Systema motor.

It's funny, because I'm serious... I don't think I'd know a burnt out motor from a good one except it not working...

The corroded/charred copper there on the commutator makes for a very poor electrical system and connection. Its possible that it would even be sparking if I would continue to test it. However, I'm just going to repair it, and use it in a less stressful build... or maybe sell it.

Or, wire brush on a dremel... the lightest of touches polished it right up

So, long story short, if you're going to pull a m150-160 (I can't keep track of what level springs are in what guns anymore :'( ) on stock ratio gears, stay away from Systema A to Z motors. Go with a high torque motor, not a balanced one.

It did give me 25rps, but the motor also burnt out after only 3-4 months. A lot of testing since it was a build from scratch, and probably about 4 games with it. Now that I've got it polished back up, I'll run it until it starts acting up again, just to see what to expect from it.

After that, I'll replace it with a high torque motor. Its not like I need 25rps in a semi auto only gun anyway
