There's really no point in spending $200+ on a new gun if you're going to completely gut it. I wouldn't pay over $200 for a chiclone AR in the first place (I.E. Javelin M16).

meh, imo it depends. If you are going to make a cool confortable M150 DMR, then a nicer chiclone wouldn't be so bad, as you wouldn't need to replace anything. But if you bump it up to our crazy levels, meaning M170 or M180, then you'd need to replace a good chunk of those internals, I'd go cheaper.

I agree with kory there; any Airsoft gun can be a dmr, so pretty much just pick something that you like the look of. ... Personally, I hate m16s because there is nothing you can do that somebody before you hasn't already done. New is always better. IMO.

Another thing i'll add is; you should really check some sale threads for pre upgraded guns. The resale value on dmrs/modified Airsoft guns is very low (typically), so if you're going for quality like you say, you could save money in the long run by buying a used upgraded gun. Then just assume that you'll sspend X amount of money getting it to be exactly what you want

The mags are wobbly to most people, and the large open section is perfect for holding any debris that can get in your gun. We pulled out like a whole tree last time i cleaned a friends E1 AUG

Star can tell you about the L85s.
This reminds me of something else worth mentioning.

A nice little difference between bullpups and ARs is that bullpups are much easier to break down if they need internal repairs. I'm not sure how easy, but from what I could guess, easy enough that one could swap a p90 gearbox in 5-10 minutes.

Also, as felix mentioned, from all I've heard bullpups all seem to have some extra space around the gearbox. Therefore if I were using a bullpup, I would do like Kory (star_folder) did with his and fill that extra space with foam. Between a proper shim and lube, and all that foam, his F2000 makes almost no noise at all. If anything a faint pop when the BB leaves the barrel.

ARs on the other hand though, tend to not have much space for anything more than whats necessary.

That's the main reason I mentioned the AUG too, as Dom has said on a couple occasions that they are easier to quiet the gearbox down when compared to the ARs or M14s.

The bullpups that do have quick gearbox access are all L85s, P90s, AUGs, and you could say the RS Type 97 has quick access to the gearbox.

The Ares Tavor does not, and has one of the worst take downs of any gun.

Idk about any FAMAS, never owned or worked on one.

You can't make a DMR out of a FAMAS unless you want to custom build a motor for. Big dittos on the Ares Tavor, you do NOT want to have to work on them. If you want quiet, go with a bullpup. If you want an easy build, go with a V2 since it's easy to find parts and info. But before you do anything, make sure you have some money and a good tech unless you know what you are doing.

Ah ok so I was wrong. Next question aren't v2 and v3 gearboxs very similar?

Hotspur, this isn't the thread to discuss the differences between V2 and V3 gearboxes. You are welcome to start a new thread about that, but this thread is about DMR builds.
You name a game, I've been to it.

If I've banned you, then you have more than likely deserved it.

If I deleted a post it didn't need to be there or I simply didn't like it.

I am actually doing a DMR build myself I'm using a JG M16. I was wondering if V2 and V3 parts were compatible is that such a problem?
